Giving Blood at ServiceMaster of Kalamazoo
Interesting Facts About Blood
- Blood is perishable. It has a shelf life of 42 days; therefore it is vital for blood donor organizations to constantly collect blood to ensure safety and availability of the blood supply.
- More blood is needed than ever before. With ddvances in medical science, blood is needed for people with bleeding disorders, chemotherapy, radiation, and more.
- 50% of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood, yet only 5% of those eligibles actually donate.
- Every two seconds someone in the U.S. needs blood.
Save Three Lives
One donation can save up to three people’s lives. How incredible. Although a needle prick may not be an ideal part of giving blood, our cookies, snacks, and drinks will make up for it. And maybe the snacks don’t necessarily make up for it; but saving up to three peoples’ lives seems worth a small prick.
Michigan Blood holds our drives, and they provide blood to over 40 hospitals throughout Michigan. Michigan Blood is a nonprofit organization and approximately 2 million people (in hospitals in Michigan) rely on Michigan Blood for 100% of their regular blood supply. Next year, we are scheduled to use both Michigan Blood and American Red Cross.
