Stuff the Bus Event Raised $7,000 and Doubled in School Supply Donations

Free School Supplies for Kids
Hiemstra Optical’s “Stuff the Bus” event raised over $7,000 in cash for back to school supplies and doubled their amount of donated supplies from last year. Now that’s what we call a successful fundraiser. The supplies are delivered to the schools in Kalamazoo, Portage, Paw Paw, and Plainwell school districts. Underprivileged kids will receive backpacks, pencils, pens, folders, notebooks, etc., to help them confidently transition into the school year. Kids are number one, and we love being a partner in this annual event. Please help spread the word and help increase donations and participation for next year.
When Does the Fundraiser Start?
The fundraiser starts in July with many drop-off locations available. Then in August, Hiemstra Optical hosts the annual “Stuff the Bus” event. Free beverages are provided, but more importantly, free vision screening is offered for kids. Ages 1-17.
Free Vision Screening
Did you say free vision screening? Yes indeed. Hiemstra Optical believes, “Good vision is your child’s most important school supply.” The technology provided by “Project KidSight” is amazing, and the volunteers are too. The process literally takes 10 seconds. The machine scans the eye and immediately finds out if corrective lenses are needed while detecting any eye diseases. Many parents bring their kids to have a free eye screening and to help support this annual fundraiser. Local supporting businesses are there with free giveaways, and who doesn’t love free giveaways?
We hope to see you next year. Contact your local Hiemstra Optical to see how you can become involved in this event.
